We shall drive from central London, past the Royal Palaces of Westminster, St. James's, Buckingham and Kensington, then on to Windsor to visit the most historic royal residence of Her Majesty the Queen. Here, we will see the magnificent State Apartments, St. George's Chapel, burial place of Kings and Queens and Queen Mary's Dolls House. Our drive back to London will take us to Runnymede where King John signed the Magna Carta in 1215.
We follow the River Thames to Kew and proceed via Richmond to Hampton Court Palace. This famous Tudor Palace was built by Cardinal Wolsey in 1514, lived in by Henry V111 and then partly remodelled by Sir Christopher Wren for William 111 & Mary 11. We shall view both the King's and Queen's State Apartments, the Tudor Kitchens, Henry V111's great Hall and Chapel, the Astronomical Clock and then stroll through the gardens before returning to London via Richmond Park.

GREENWICH or LEEDS CASTLE |

We will drive through the City of London and over Tower Bridge to Greenwich. Here, we visit the National Maritime Museum and the Painted Hall in the Naval College. We have the opportunity to see the Royal Observatory and put a foot in East and West at the same time! (Greenwich is the world's Prime Meridian). Before leaving we will go on board the old tea clipper - The Cutty Sark - and also the yacht in which Sir Francis Chichester circumnavigated the globe.
Drive via the City of London to the Kent countryside and romantic Leeds Castle, a medieval castle built on two islands and surrounded by a lake. This was a royal residence for over 300 hundred years, given to Queen Eleanor of Castille in the 13th Century and remaining in royal ownership until Henry V111. Subsequent owners lovingly added to the castle. |

It was finally restored to its former glory by Lady Baillie early in this century. Enjoy the 500 acres of grounds, complete with herb garden, grotto and maze.

Tour 5: 7-8 hours | WINDSOR CASTLE and HAMPTON COURT PALACE | £360 |

A combination of Tour 3, but with more time to enjoy all the highlights. We shall stroll over to Eton, famous for the boys' school founded by Henry V1 and have lunch overlooking the River Thames. At Hampton Court, should you wish, we will have time to have fun in the Maze.

Tour 6: 9 hours | CANTERBURY CATHEDRAL and HEVER CASTLE or LEEDS CASTLE or CHARTWELL | £400 |

We shall drive through the County of Kent, known as the "Garden of England" or the "Cradle of Christianity". Canterbury is a medieval town with small winding streets overshadowed by the great Cathedral, scene of the murder of Thomas a Becket and a shrine for Chaucer's pilgrims. Lunch will be taken in one of the numerous Kent village pubs before a visit to either Leeds Castle, Hever Castle or Chartwell. Leeds Castle is described in Tour 4. Hever Castle is the moated childhood home of Queen Anne Boleyn and more latterly filled with treasures by William Waldorf Astor. There is a walled Italian Garden, complete with statues and a
Maze. Chartwell was the private home of our great leader in the Second
World War, Sir Winston Churchill, and together with the beatifully
landscaped gardens is kept as a memorial to him.

Tour 6A: 9 hours | GARDENS - SISSINGHURST CASTLE, and PENSHURST PLACE, CHARTWELL or KNOLE | £400 |

Enjoy a leisurely drive through the Kent countryside to Sissinghurst Castle and Gardens. These gardens were created from the shell of a 16th Century Manor House by Harold Nicholson and Vita Sackville West and are known as a series of "floral rooms". It is one of the most beautiful gardens in England. Lunch will be taken at a country inn before visiting Penshurst Place, where we will tour this graceful Tudor mansion and stroll through the gardens. Alternatively we will either visit Chartwell (see Tour 6) or Knole, one of England's largest stately homes, dating back to the 15th Century.

Tour 7: 9 hours | OXFORD, COTSWOLDS and BLENHEIM PALACE or
CONSTABLE COUNTRY and HATFIELD HOUSE | £425 |

First we drive to Oxford, known as the "City of the Dreaming Spires", England's oldest university town. Enjoy a walking tour of the ancient streets before visiting one of the cloistered colleges. Our lunch will be taken in the heart of the Cotswolds, one of England's most attractive areas, with gentle hills and delightful mellowed stone cottages. We shall then drive via Woodstock to Blenheim Palace, England's only non-royal palace. (see Tour 7A)
Cambridge, our other great university town, by contrast, is more compact, having the delightful river Cam running right through the heart of some Colleges. Here, we will visit King's College and Chapel, founded by Henry V1. Time and weather permitting, we could even go punting down the river before returning through the countryside which inspired John Constable's paintings and on to 17th Century Hatfield House, built for the influential Cecil Family, courtiers to Queen Elizabeth 1.

Tour 8: 10 hours | OXFORD, COTSWOLDS and SUDELY CASTLE and GARDENS | £495 |

We first visit Oxford (Tour 7). We then go into the heart of the Cotswolds, stopping off in villages like Burford and Broadway, perhaps to enjoy the antique shops before visiting Sudeley Castle, given by Henry V111 to the Seymour family and finally the home of his last Queen, Katherine Parr. Cromwell's men did a thorough job of "slighting" the Castle but it was restored by the ancestors of the present owners during the Victorian era.

Tour 10A: 9 hours | BRIGHTON, ARUNDEL CASTLE or PETWORTH HOUSE | £415 |

We will drive down to the South Coast to the Regency seaside resort of Brighton and visit the Royal Pavilion, created in 1783 for the Prince of Wales. There will be time to have lunch and browse in "The Lanes", attractive alleyways full of antique shops.
Our afternoon will take us either west along the coast to Arundel Castle or into Sussex and Petworth House. Arundel Castle was built by the Normans and has been the seat of the Dukes of Norfolk for over 700 years. Its treasures include fine furniture, clocks, tapestries and portraits by artists like Van Dyck, Gainsborough and Reynolds.
Petworth House, once the home of the Dukes of Somerset, but now owned by the National Trust, is a magnificent 17th Century house in a beautiful deer park, landscaped by Capability Brown. Here there is one of the finest collections of paintings in the country and it includes works by Turner and Van Dyck, together with sculptures, furniture and works of art.

We would be happy to give you suggestions for a Touring Itinerary, whether it be for two weeks or just a couple of days. Perhaps you would like to stay in York, visit the Lake District, go to Wales or Scotland or just take life easily in the West Country; all can be arranged including hotel accommodation. A short tour suggestion : Two nights in East Anglia, tour Cambridge, and stay overnight in unspoilt north Norfolk, where we can visit Holkham and Blickling Halls, stay in the historic town of Norwich before returning to London via Suffolk and Constable Country.
